FastGen Cloud vs Segmind
Segmind hosts a large set of open generative models with per-model endpoints and credit-based billing. FastGen Cloud is narrower and more opinionated: fewer models, one contract, a prepaid USD balance and published per-output rates.
Side by side
| Dimension | FastGen Cloud | Segmind |
|---|---|---|
| Catalogue | A curated image and video lineup, one strong option per task. | A large catalogue of hosted open models and pipelines. |
| API shape | One REST contract shared by every model and operation. | Per-model endpoints with their own parameter sets. |
| Billing unit | US dollars per image or per second of video, published per model. | Credit-based, consumed per call. |
| Spend control | Prepaid balance — a runaway loop stops when the balance hits zero. | Governed by your credit balance and plan. |
| Async model | Every operation is a job: 202, then poll or signed webhook, with idempotent replay. | Varies by endpoint. |
| Custom subjects | Server-side character training, referenced by id; no weights ever cross the API. | Varies by pipeline. |

Fewer models, on purpose
A large catalogue pushes the selection problem onto you: which of eleven near-identical finetunes is the one to ship on, and what happens to your output when it is deprecated. A curated lineup answers that by picking one and keeping the id stable.
The trade is real. If you want to benchmark many checkpoints against each other, a broad catalogue serves you better.
Dollars rather than credits
Rates are published in US dollars per output, and the wallet is a dollar balance in micro-USD. There is no credit-to-dollar conversion to reason about when you are working out what a generation costs you, which matters when you are pricing your own product on top.
What migrating actually involves
The shape is the same everywhere: authenticate, submit a job, wait for a callback, download the output. In practice a migration is one client module and a model-name mapping.
const res = await fetch("https://api.fastgencloud.com/v1/images/generations", {
method: "POST",
headers: {
Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.FASTGEN_API_KEY}`,
"Content-Type": "application/json",
"Idempotency-Key": requestId,
},
body: JSON.stringify({ model: "general-image", prompt, size: "1024x1024" }),
});
const job = await res.json(); // 202 → { id, status: "queued" }
// then either poll GET /v1/jobs/{id}, or pass webhook_url and get a signed callbackHow billing works here
Money is a prepaid balance in your account. You top it up with a card, each job debits it at submit time, and a failed job is refunded automatically — there is no invoice at the end of the month and no way to run up a bill you did not intend.
Rates are per image or per second of video, published on the pricing page. Images above 1 megapixel bill pro rata by pixel count. Outputs are retained for up to 7 days.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you offer dedicated or always-warm endpoints?
- Not currently. Every model runs on shared serverless capacity, which means a cold start when a model has been idle. If sustained warm throughput is a hard requirement for you, get in touch before you build.
- How many images can I request at once?
- Up to 4 per request on the image models. Submit concurrent jobs for more — each gets its own id and its own webhook.
- Is there a free tier?
- There is no free generation tier today. Accounts get two free character training slots; generation is billed from a prepaid balance from the first image.
